The Miami Dolphins were steamrolled in Northern California against the San Francisco 49ers this past Sunday. The team looked somewhat promising in the first half — moving the ball well against a stout Niners defense. They trailed by just 8 points at halftime — merely a single touchdown, plus two-point conversion away from making it a nail-biter. Unfortunately, the Dolphins came out flat in the second-half — both on offense and on defense — and were ultimately trounced by a score of 35-13.
Choosing a Most Valuable ‘Phin for Sunday’s game against the 49ers was not an enviable task. There wasn’t much “good” to go around against San Francisco. But… that’s just how this season is going to go, and this job must be done, so I will do it to the best of my ability.

Miami Dolphins Week Two MVP – LB Jacob Rodriguez
Plenty of people mentioned how Dolphins rookie linebacker Jacob Rodriguez should have won team MVP for his week one performance that saw the youngster notch 14 combined tackles against the Las Vegas Raiders. Well, on Sunday against San Francisco, Rodriguez followed up his stellar week one performance by adding another 8 combined tackles against the 49ers — good for second on the team behind safety Michael Taaffe.
It is the second week in a row where a rookie has taken my weekly MVP award, which exemplifies what this season is all about for the Miami Dolphins. This young team needs to establish a solid foundation before it can get flashy. If Miami’s rookies become major contributors this season — and it already looks like Rodriguez is going to be one of those top contributors — the Dolphins will be better in the future for it.
