The Knicks have signed Kevin McCullar Jr. and Tyler Nickel to two-way contracts, the team announced today (Twitter links).
McCullar has spent the past two seasons with New York on two-way deals after being selected 56th overall in the 2024 draft. The 25-year-old made 21 regular season appearances in 2025/26, averaging 2.4 points in 7.4 minutes per game.
A 6’6″ wing who played his college ball at Texas Tech and Kansas, McCullar also appeared in 14 total games (31.4 MPG) with the G League’s Westchester Knicks last season, averaging 16.8 PPG, 6.2 APG, 5.4 RPG, 2.0 SPG and 1.0 BPG on .422/.299/.667 shooting splits.
Nickel had been one of a handful of 2026 second-round picks — he was selected 47th overall in June — who had yet to sign their first NBA contracts. Obviously that situation has now been resolved.
As a senior with Vanderbilt last season, Nickel averaged 13.5 PPG, 3.3 RPG and 1.2 APG on .445/.400/.847 shooting in 36 games, all starts (30.6 MPG). He was a high-volume three-point marksman, attempting 7.6 shots per game from behind the arc.
Nickel, a 6’7″ wing, was reportedly weighing whether to attempt to return to the NCAA ranks after a federal judge ruled in August that four-year college players from the high school class of 2022 were eligible for a fifth season in 2026/27. The ruling was appealed by the NCAA and overturned, but it prompted several of the players who met that criteria to seek temporary restraining orders from individual states.
The Knicks had been carrying three open two-way spots all offseason. Two of those spots have now been filled by McCullar and Nickel, but the team still has one two-way opening on the eve of training camp.
More to come…
