Mac McClung, a three-time slam dunk contest champion and two-time G League MVP, has signed a one-year deal with Basket Girona in the Spanish ACB, the team announced in a press release. It will be McClung’s first time playing overseas.

For all his success at the G League level, McClung hasn’t been able to find a long-term NBA home since leaving Texas Tech in 2021, appearing in 17 total games with five teams over the past five years. He got into three games with Indiana early last season before being waived on November 7, then signed a two-way contract with Chicago in February and saw time in eight more contests.

“His main characteristic is his scoring ability,” said Fernando San Emeterio, sporting director for Basket Girona. “He has been a scorer throughout his career. He is capable of generating his own shots and scoring from the paint, from mid-range and also from the three-point line. Another of the qualities that we like a lot is his ability to generate play for his teammates. Based on the attention he arouses in defenses and his ability to break them, he is a very good passer. Now the challenge is to transfer all this potential to European basketball, since he has never played there yet. … We believe that it fits perfectly with our style of play and our identity. In addition, he is a very competitive player, and we are delighted to be able to count on him.”

• Former NBA forward Matt Ryan has signed with Maxima Roma for the upcoming season, per Geoff Gillingham of Euroleague.net. Ryan, who spent time with five NBA teams from 2021-25, played with Dubai Basketball last season.
• Nuggets center Nikola Jokic is part of the 18-man Serbian squad that will compete in the FIBA World Cup Qualifiers this month, according to Eurohoops. The team will play exhibition games against France on August 20 and 23 before hosting Iceland on August 28 and traveling to Italy three days later.
• Davis Bertans is retiring from international competition after representing Latvia for the past 15 years, relays Dario Skerletic of Sportando. Bertans, who plays for Dubai Basketball, made the announcement in an online post. “I sincerely hope that Latvian basketball is in a much better place today than it was when I played my first game for the national team,” he wrote. “From now on, I will be one of its biggest supporters. I will always cheer for the team and, whenever I have the chance, I’ll be in the stands supporting the guys.”
