The Hornets intend to sign undrafted free agent forward Michael Ajayi to a two-way contract, league sources tell Tony Jones of The Athletic (Twitter link).
A 6’7″ wing, Ajayi had a well-traveled college career, playing two years of junior college ball before suiting up for Pepperdine, Gonzaga and Butler over the past three seasons. As a senior for the Bulldogs in 2025/26, he averaged 16.4 points, 11.1 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 1.1 steals and 0.9 blocks in 33.6 minutes per game.
While Ajayi was highly productive in his final college season, he wasn’t the most efficient offensive player, posting a .455/.261/.653 shooting slash line in his 32 appearances.
Ajayi, who was a first-team All-Big East honoree with Butler, was ranked 63rd on Jeremy Woo’s big board for ESPN.
Two-way contracts, which allow a team to shuttle a player back and forth between the NBA and the G League, are non-guaranteed and don’t count against the salary cap. Ajayi projects to earn $679K as a rookie next season, assuming he sticks with Charlotte beyond the league-wide salary guarantee date in January.
