NEW YORK—A fleet of Cadillacs convening in the parking adjacent to Arthur Ashe Stadium are a reminder of the comings and goings of major contenders.

Seeing several seeds carted out of the tournament, Coco Gauff showed the drive to extend her stay today.

Down a break early, Gauff unleashed a five-game surge dispatching Spaniard Cristina Bucsa 6-3, 6-4 on Arthur Ashe Stadium to power into her fifth consecutive US Open fourth round.

At the tender age of 22, Gauff is the fifth American woman in the Open Era to reach 5 or more consecutive US Open fourth rounds before turning 23 after Chrissie Evert, Tracy Austin, Pam Shriver and Venus Williams.

“Fifth straight year into week two—I’m definitely used to getting to week twos, just enjoying the experience out here,” Gauff told Mary Joe Fernandez afterward. “A lot of pressure as an American to do well. 

“I obviously want to do well in front of you guys. Last year I was putting so much pressure on myself to perform well. This year I’m more relaxed. Today, my first serve percentage wasn’t high, but I’ll get better at that.”

On a day in which 2025 finalist Amanda Anisimova and 2025 Australian Open champion Madison Keys both lost—and Gauff’s United Cup teammate Taylor Fritz fell in five sets right before her—Gauff served 42 percent in the first set, 58 percent in the second set and faced just one break point in a 78-minute triumph.

Next up for Gauff is a round of 16 blockbuster between the winner of tonight’s match between American Iva Jovic and Filipina phenom Alexandra Eala.
