Former Kentucky running back Chip Trayanum, who finished his collegiate career at Toledo, was carted off the field and taken to a hospital after suffering a neck injury during Friday night’s game between the New York Jets and New York Giants.

The Jets provided an update on Trayanum, stating: “Chip Trayanum (neck) has been ruled out & is on the way to the hospital. He is awake, alert, and has movement of his extremities.”

The injury occurred just before halftime when Trayanum received a handoff from Cade Klubnik and took a hit from Trace Ford. After the hit, trainers and doctors immediately rushed onto the field to examine Trayanum. Several Jets players and coaches remained on the field and prayed while Trayanum was being evaluated.

Medical personnel placed Trayanum in a neck brace and strapped him to a backboard before he was loaded onto a cart and taken to the hospital. According to Adam Schefter, Trayanum appeared to be flexing both of his hands as he was being taken inside.

Trayanum scored the Jets’ only touchdown of the first half on a 1-yard touchdown run. He finished the game with 12 carries for 38 yards.

Trayanum originally came to Kentucky as a senior in 2024 as a graduate transfer after spending two seasons at Ohio State and two seasons at Arizona State.
