Ryan Clark is part of the latest round of layoffs at ESPN, according to The Athletic’s Andrew Marchand. The news comes as NFL training camps get set to open with the calendar flipping from July to August.

Clark was notified of the move while he was on “NFL Live,” according to Marchand, adding that ESPN was expected to inform him of the decision on July 21.
He didn’t finish the show.
It is somewhat curious timing, especially as ESPN and ABC get set to broadcast Super Bowl 61 on Feb. 14, 2027.
Clark was expected to be a major part of that broadcast, having contributed to plenty of the network’s NFL programming, from “NFL Live” to other shows like “Get Up” and “First Take.”
The 46-year-old also made appearances on “SportsCenter” with Scott Van Pelt after “Monday Night Football.” He joined the network in 2015 after a 13-year playing career.
According to Marchand, this decision marks the first of more layoffs expected this week.

It comes at a time when ESPN is still integrating NFL Network employees with the company after the two officially merged following approval from government regulators in January. With added reporters and analysts, Clark became part of the overlap between ESPN and NFL Network talent.
Front Office Sports reported in Sept. 2025 that Clark “could be on thin ice” with ESPN after a series of apologies he issued for various controversial comments.
While Clark is making an exit, ESPN has also been extending other on-air talent, recently inking deals with Adam Schefter and Tim Tebow as the fall sports calendar nears.
