SAN ANTONIO – Voters in Bexar County are weighing a mix of local leadership races, tax measures, and school funding proposals in today’s May 2 election.
On the candidate side, several cities have competitive mayoral and council races.
There are also a number of local propositions, many focused on taxes and infrastructure. Several cities, including Castle Hills and Shavano Park, are asking voters whether to reauthorize a local sales tax (about a quarter-cent) to fund street maintenance and repairs.
School funding is another big piece. In the Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City ISD, voters are deciding on multiple bond measures totaling hundreds of millions of dollars for school facilities, stadiums, and technology upgrade, all of which would be funded through property taxes.
Beyond that, some ballots include special improvement district proposals that would approve new taxes and bonds for things like roads, utilities, and economic development projects.
