Diljit Dosanjh and the makers of ‘Satluj’ have lost their cool after the film was taken down from OTT platform within 48 hours of its release. Earlier titled ‘Punjab 95’, the film the film had seen the light of the day after four years of completion. However, its removal from ZEE5 within two days has left the makers and the star cast shocked and upset.

In an Instagram live after the film’s release, Diljit Dosanjh had predicted that something similar could happen to the film. He had then urged the audience to either watch it or download it. He had also said that he had no concerns as he knew that everyone had downloaded the film and seen it. Many clips from the film have now surfaced on social media.

Those who had watched the film filled social media with glorious reviews. Audience rallied between Diljit and the makers and demanded that the film be restored. As the makers announced that the film will remain unavailable in the country, writer Honey Trehan is perplexed with the non-communication.

Writer reacts

The film is based on the life of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra. He had exposed Punjab’s alleged illegal cremations during militancy. He was murdered in 1995. Niren Bhatt, who has co-written the film with director Honey Trehan said, “Developments surely means they are being asked by someone to pause it. It is clear that someone in power to do so, whether at the CBFC or the Information and Broadcasting Ministry, has stepped in.”

“I feel someone in the establishment has a massive problem with it, but the real issue is the complete lack of communication. For years, it has just been pure stonewalling. There is pin drop silence from the CBFC. They will not tell us what their problem is, which parts offend them or who is making these calls. Even now, ZEE5 issues a statement about ‘current developments’ but cannot explain what those developments actually are. If there is a problem, let us have a dialogue. But how can you have a dialogue when they just silently remove your work?” he added.
