The Miami Dolphins came into the year with low expectations, but running back De’Von Achane was the one player who could carry the team to respectability. But the Dolphins experienced their worst-case scenario in Week 3, as Achane limped off the field on the team’s first offensive drive.
Achane’s injury came on the team’s fifth play of the game. He had touched the ball multiple times on the team’s first drive before the injury.

Achane was able to get up after the play, but was tended to by trainers before he limped off the field.
He eventually walked back to the locker room and was deemed questionable to return with a knee injury.
Any missed time for Achane would be devastating for a Dolphins team bereft of offensive talent. After cutting Tua Tagovailoa and Tyreek Hill, and trading away Jaylen Waddle, Achane was the last man standing on offense.
While Miami could have traded Achane away, the team instead opted to give the 24-year-old a four-year, $68 million extension. He was expected to be the focal point of the team’s new-look offense with Malik Willis under center.

Since joining the NFL in 2023, Achane has emerged as a star-caliber player. He turned in his best season in the NFL last year, rushing for 1,350 yards and scoring eight rushing touchdowns. That performance resulted in Achane being elected to the Pro Bowl for the first time in his career.
