The Cowboys needed a tight end for depth purposes with injuries to Michael Trigg and D.J. Rogers. To that end, they signed tight end Mitch Van Vooren on Monday, Todd Archer of ESPN reports.

In a corresponding move, the Cowboys waived defensive tackle Kelvin Gilliam.

Van Vooren spent part of the offseason with the Patriots.

Van Vooren, 25, entered the NFL as a rookie free agent in 2025, signing with the Seahawks. Seattle cut him on June 13, 2025, and he signed with the Browns on Aug. 4 before they waived him on Aug. 24.

Van Vooren earned first-team All-NACC honors during his final collegiate season at St. Norbert after recording 33 receptions for 510 yards and 10 touchdowns. He began his college career as a track athlete at Marquette, setting the school record in the 400-meter hurdles.
