Rui Hachimura will sign a two-year, $28MM contract with the Clippers, sources tell ESPN’s Shams Charania (Twitter link).
Hachimura and agent Darren Matsubara of THE•TEAM reached an understanding with the Clippers early in free agency, adds Charania (Twitter link), who states that they were hoping to work out a sign-and-trade, but the Lakers weren’t willing to cooperate.
Hachimura’s new deal includes a team option for the second season, according to Law Murray of The Athletic (Twitter link).
The contract will fit into the $15MM non-taxpayer mid-level exception, which would hard cap the Clippers at the first apron, notes Yossi Gozlan of The Third Apron (Twitter link). However, they also have the option of signing him with cap space and avoiding that restriction.
