The Dallas Cowboys held their first practice of training camp with pads on Monday and rookie defensive back Caleb Downs took notice.
Let’s be clear here. The Cowboys have barely had a handful of practices in general, and just a single one wearing the actual gear that is to be worn when you play the sport of football. We are talking in excitement, but we also recognize that there is a long way to go in the grand scheme.

But did you know that Caleb Downs is the greatest football player to ever live???
Downs perfectly assessed a run and met Jaydon Blue in the hole for what would have been no gain in proper football situations. This is fantastic read, react, and running to the play. This is everything we dreamt about Downs becoming, and while we dreamt it, seeing it in action is an entirely different thing.
Downs has a lot to prove and it will come in tiny installments over the course of what is hopefully a long and plentiful career. But this was one of the first moments where everybody went “that’s why we drafted him!” and you want to see those happening over and over.
