With an investment of US$155 million (mn), the BCIE will support the implementation of the Road Infrastructure and Urban Mobility Program – Phase II in El Salvador, continuing with strategic interventions for the country in the area of road infrastructure. The program will benefit more than 1.17 million inhabitants in the Metropolitan Area of San Salvador and in the district of Atiquizaya, in the department of Ahuachapán.
This initiative is structured in three main components: the expansion and improvement of Highway RN13W on the section Desvío Atiquizaya – Desvío Bypass de Ahuachapán along with its related works; the design studies and construction of the Northern Corridor of the AMSS Ring Road; and the design studies of the Eastern Corridor of the AMSS Ring Road. Taken together, the Program includes the expansion to 4 lanes of 7.05 km of existing road, the construction of 8.17 km of new roads, and 30.4 km of new bike lane.
The implementation of this program will redistribute the traffic flows that currently overwhelm the capital, reducing the average travel time by 45.6% for users of the sections involved, and will improve regional circulation on the Pan-American Highway. In addition, with the expansion of RN13W, the program will increase the capacity of some of the country’s most important road corridors, projecting an annual average daily traffic of 111,053 vehicles, including 9,023 heavy freight vehicles, offering safer conditions and lower operating costs for its users.
The Program also incorporates technological solutions for intelligent traffic management, road safety measures, and infrastructure for non-motorized transport, and it is estimated that it will generate 250 temporary direct jobs.
With this approval, CABEI reaffirms its commitment to the comprehensive development of El Salvador. This financing represents a long-term investment in competitiveness, territorial connectivity, and the well-being of the Salvadoran population.
