Model influencer Morgan Riddle says her six-year relationship with ex-boyfriend Taylor Fritz ended on amicable terms.
The experience prompted Riddle to make one sports-related vow.
“I’ll never date an athlete again,” Riddle tells Elle Magazine in a new interview.
The couple’s six-year relationship ended about two months ago. Riddle said she remains on good terms with Fritz, which is one reason why she shared the news with her 501,000 Instagram followers wearing a “World’s Best Ex-Girlfriend” t-shirt ordered on Instagram.
“When public relationships end, it’s standard to do some sort of Instagram statement or video, and I tried to write that a few times and I was just like, ‘This is not me,’” Riddle tells Elle Magazine. “We’re on good terms, so I wanted to make it more lighthearted than breakups usually are online.”
A near-constant presence in Fritz’s box in recent years alongside coach Michael Russell and his wife, Lily, Riddle suggests she hasn’t had too much trouble adjusting to life after the ATP Tour. Riddle said scrutiny from tennis fans could feel constraining.
“Because people would get offended by everything in the tennis world, and it didn’t only reflect on me, I had to reel myself in a lot,” Riddle says. “Now I don’t have to do that anymore!”
Building a brand while she dated Fritz has helped her transition to post-tennis life, Riddle says.
“Say, hypothetically, I fully supported him and his career and didn’t make my own money and didn’t develop my own brand, what would I be doing now? Would I be back in Minnesota?” Riddle tells Elle Magazine. “If you don’t have that autonomy and you don’t make your own money and you want to leave [a relationship]…
“I just hope any WAG or woman can make that choice.”
