Kirby Smart spent an entire week ruminating on how calm and steady Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss has been this season. He then conspired with Glenn Schumann to put Chambliss in a blender and switch back and forth between the puree and smoothie settings for an entire college football game.
Georgia pressured Chambliss early and often, using unconventional pressure from all over the field to confuse the Rebel pass protection and discombobulate Chambliss. The result was an Ole Miss offense that looked like an Ole Mess for most of a 35-7 beatdown.

Pete Golding’s team went three and out on their first drive, then only ran four plays on their second. By the time they finally put together anything that looked like a drive they were already down 14-0.
The Bulldogs exploded out to that lead by running the dang ball. Nate Frazier took the first snap of the night for the UGA offense for a 46 yard gain deep into Ole Miss territory then the Dawgs just kept pounding the rock, grinding for 127 rushing yards by the end of the first quarter. . The Red and Black would finish the night with a season-high 296 yards on the ground, led by Frazier’s 106 yards on 17 carries.
Then Mike Bobo just continued to unload his bag of tricks. An Ole Miss defense that has struggled to avoid giving up big plays found itself doing what it couldn’t do if it hoped to stay in this one: give up a series of big plays. A lot of those big plays had Talyn Taylor’s name all over them. It was a career night for the sophomore receiver, who finished with 4 catches for 140 yards, including touchdown catches of 58 and 65 yards. Crucially, Mike Bobo resisted the urge to get conservative offensively once the Classic City Canines went up by two scores, and it was beautiful to see.
The defense however was the story of the night. They harassed Chambliss, forcing him into two turnovers and an uncharacteristically pedestrian stat line. The Rebel signal caller finished 18 of 34 passing for 170 yards and no touchdown passes. Critically however the Dawgs also crushed the Mississippi run game, allowing only 66 yards on the ground on 31 attempts. That total, as well as the Rebs’ 252 yards of total offense, were both season lows.

The Red and Black did the things you have to do to win on the road in the SEC: start fast, create turnovers, run the football, and take advantage of scoring opportunities. If you can find something to dislike about this game, you’re a more Munsonian fan than I. That was a violent work of art. The Bulldogs now return to Athens to take on a Missouri team coming off a tough luck loss to Texas. It should be another statement opportunity for Kirby Smart’s team. Until later…
Go ‘Dawgs!!!
