The New York Jets lost their third straight game and sixth of their last seven on Sunday. Last week the Jets lost at home against the previously winless Miami Dolphins. This week the Las Vegas Raiders broke their own four game losing streak by out-scoring the Jets in a wild 38 – 33 shootout in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The Jets took a nine point lead into the locker room at halftime, only to unravel in the second half. The Jets defense was helpless to stop the Raiders attack in the second half as the Jets were out-scored 24 – 10 to close the game. It was a humiliating performance by a putrid Jets defense.
The embarrassing Jets loss left the Jets with a 2-6 record to start the season, in 3rd place in the AFC East. Any hopes of a playoff run are all but gone. Though mathematical elimination is still probably a month or so away, it has become obvious the Jets playoff drought will extend to 16 years and counting by season’s end.

Now the Jets go on the road to face the 5-2 Kansas City Chiefs in Kansas City next Sunday. The Chiefs have lost two straight games to tough opponents on the road. This week the Denver Broncos barely survived as the Chiefs were stopped on the one yard line as they were trying for a game winning score as time ran out.
The Chiefs opened the 2026 season with a dominant 31 – 10 victory over the Denver Broncos. They followed that impressive win with four straight victories over some of the worst teams in the NFL – the Indianapolis Colts, Miami Dolphins, Las Vegas Raiders and Los Angeles Chargers. The 5-0 start to the season was great, but with four of the wins coming against bad teams, it is tough to say just how good the Chiefs are. Now they have lost two straight to tough opponents.
Are the Chiefs a top team? Maybe. It’s not entirely clear. What is crystal clear is the Chiefs are a far, far better team than the Jets. Teams like the Dolphins and the Raiders have snapped their losing streaks against the Jets in East Rutherford. It seems all but inevitable Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs will do the same at home.
Let’s take a look at the current odds for this game according to FanDuel Sportsbook. Unsurprisingly the oddsmakers think the Chiefs will easily handle the Jets. The current line has the Jets road underdogs by 9.5 points. The game has an over/under of 46.5 points. On the moneyline the Jets are +400 while the Chiefs are -520.

Any given Sunday and all that jazz, but an upset here seems like a bridge too far for the Jets. Perhaps they can at least pull off one of those infamous moral victories and keep the game competitive against a Chiefs team that may understandably have trouble getting up for a game against the hapless Jets.
