The Wizards have exercised their rookie scale team options for next season on five players selected in the first round of the 2024 and 2025 drafts, according to a team press release.
Here are those five players, along with the salaries they’ll make in 2027/28 now that their options have been picked up:
Each of the five players was already earning guaranteed contracts this season. Now that their fourth-year options have been exercised, Sarr, Carrington and George will be eligible for rookie scale extensions next offseason.
Sarr, the second overall pick in 2024, is off to a quiet start to his third season, averaging 9.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.0 block on .524/.250/.727 shooting through six appearances (25.3 minutes per game). The French big man averaged 16.3 PPG, 7.4 RPG, 2.7 APG and 2.0 BPG in 48 games last season (27.2 MPG), though the Wizards weren’t exactly going all out to win.
Carrington was a part-time starter in his first two years, averaging 10.3 PPG, 4.5 APG and 3.8 RPG on .412/.374/.765 shooting in 164 regular season games (28.8 MPG). He’s been the primary backup point guard to Trae Young this season, having averaged 6.7 PPG, 2.2 APG and 1.5 RPG on .387/.458/1.000 shooting in six contests (19.7 MPG).
A Swiss-Canadian wing, George is arguably the most intriguing prospect of the group. The 6’8″ guard/forward had a mini-breakout 2025/26 campaign and has posted similar numbers thus far in ’26/27.
More to come…
