Los Angeles Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh is in a really tough spot. After losing the team’s first six games, people are looking to him for answers as to why things have gone awry after making the playoffs in each of the last two years. Unfortunately for the Chargers, he is stumped.
“We’re going to look at everything,” Harbaugh said via the team’s website. “The job I’m doing, it starts with me. The plan is to watch this and get with our offensive coaches.

“I see the effort, the work being put in, in the meetings and the practice field. To get that to translate to the field is what’s necessary,” Harbaugh added. “I feel bad for our players, our team, our coaches, our fans. It needs to be addressed.”
Sometimes this is how things go in the NFL: a few plays go one way, a team doesn’t live up to its potential in one week, and a snowball effect forms. That appears to be what’s happened with the Chargers, who are one of two winless teams in the NFL going into Week 7.
With Harbaugh not truly figuring out how to fix the issue, it’s clear that he needs to point the finger at himself.
This doesn’t mean Harbaugh is a bad coach. It just means he doesn’t know how to coach this group beyond what he was able to do in these past two years. That’s why coaching changes happen, and it comes at an unfortunate time.

Whether the Chargers fire Harbaugh in the middle of the season or wait until the end of the year, it’s clear that a new voice is needed to put this team in the right direction. Harbaugh has taken this team as far as it can go, and the closest way to moving higher up the ladder is to start from scratch.
