Forward CJ Huntley has been waived by the Suns, according to John Gambadoro of Arizona Sports 98.7 (Twitter link).
Phoenix is also cutting Koby Brea. Both players were on two-way contracts.
Huntley went undrafted last year out of Appalachian State. He signed a two-way contract with Phoenix shortly after the draft but was waived in mid-November.
A 6’11” forward, Huntley re-signed with the Suns on a two-year, two-way deal in March. The 24-year-old made four appearances as a rookie with Phoenix, averaging 3.0 points and 1.3 rebounds in 10.0 minutes per game.
While his NBA role was modest, Huntley put up solid numbers in the G League with the Valley Suns. In 42 games (27.0 MPG) with Phoenix’s affiliate team, he averaged 15.3 PPG, 8.2 RPG and 1.0 BPG, with a shooting line of .623/.341/.670.
The Suns are reportedly expected to convert Duop Reath’s Exhibit 10 contract to a two-way deal. But even if that comes to fruition, the Suns will have another two-way spot to fill after waiving Brea and Huntley.
