The Hornets have moved to within the regular season roster limit by waiving guards Jarkel Joiner and Latrell Wrightsell, the team announced today (via Twitter).
A 6’1″ point guard who went undrafted out of NC State in 2023, Joiner signed non-guaranteed Exhibit 10 contracts with Atlanta in 2023 and 2024 and with Toronto in 2025 before doing so with Charlotte in 2026. He has spent his first three professional seasons in the G League with the Hawks’ and Raptors’ affiliates but had his returning rights acquired by the Greensboro Swarm in a trade last month.
Last season, Joiner made 49 appearances for the Raptors 905, averaging 10.9 points, 3.6 assists, and 2.4 rebounds in 23.7 minutes per game, with a shooting line of .446/.356/.820. He also played for the Vancouver Bandits in the Canadian Elite Basketball League this year and saw action in four preseason games for Charlotte this month.
Wrightsell, a 6’3″ guard, went undrafted out of Alabama earlier this year. He’s a high-volume three-point shooter who connected at 36% last season on 7.8 attempts per game. He also posted 13.2 points and 3.1 rebounds in 27.3 minutes per contest for the Crimson Tide before agreeing to terms on an Exhibit 10 deal with the Hornets in June. That contract wasn’t finalized until this week, so Wrightsell didn’t play at all during the preseason.
Joiner and Wrightsell are expected to report to the Swarm this fall. As for the Hornets, they’re now carrying 15 players on standard contracts (all guaranteed), plus three on two-way deals.
