The wait is over. Karan Johar’s chat show, Koffee With Karan Season 9, premiered at 7 pm on JioHotstar, with Salman Khan as the first guest. The promos of Karan Johar and Salman Khan’s banter have already gone viral on social media, and fans are waiting with bated breath for the episode to air. In one of the promos, Karan is seen revisiting a question about Salman’s personal life.
‘Are you still a virgin?’: Karan Johar asks Salman Khan
Karan asked Salman, ‘Are you still a virgin?’ to which Salman mimicked in Ravi Kishan style and said, ‘Control, my brother, control’. This conversation had happened earlier too, but now, a lot later, 12-13 years later karan Johar chose to highlight Salman Khan’s virginity to open the final season.
During Koffee With Karan Season 4 (2013), Karan Johar asked Salman Khan if he was a virgin during his debut appearance. Salman replied, “Yes, I’m a virgin,” and added that he was saving himself for marriage. Karan later clarified that the comment was delivered with a straight face as humour rather than a serious confession.
The promo then shows the filmmaker telling Salman, “A wise man once said, ‘It’s done, bro.’ So who better to kick off my final season than the man himself?” Karan Johar was referring to Salman’s viral post in which the actor requested activist Sonam Wangchuk to end his fast during the Gen Z protests in July.
Salman then asked Karan Johar whether it was actually the end of the show or just an excuse for the filmmaker to get celebrity guests on the show. “I promise you, I am not coming,” Johar said, prompting Salman to playfully reply, “Karan, tussi na jao.”
On the premiere episode of Koffee With Karan Season 9, Karan also revealed how Salman came on board for Kuch Kuch Hota Hai after several leading actors turned down the supporting role. Recalling their meeting, Karan shared that Khan had casually told him, “You’ve been shopping, come narrate the film to me tomorrow.”
They reminisced about how Karan arrived at Khan’s apartment and began narrating the film. Salman, dressed in striking yellow shorts, agreed to sign the film without even hearing the entire narration. He said yes despite the filmmaker telling him that there would be no remuneration for the special appearance.
They also reminisced about a major production hiccup during the climax of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, where the camera operator accidentally shot the entire sequence in slow motion, forcing a complete reshoot. Salman then pushed his next shoot back by a day to stay back and complete the sequence.
