Novak Djokovic still believes the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics are firmly within his reach.
The 39-year-old Serbian, who would be 41 when the Games begin, says his tennis remains good enough to carry him to Los Angeles — provided he can finally put the health issues that have plagued him this season behind him.
“In terms of the game, it doesn’t feel far away, to be honest, because when I feel good health-wise, I’ve proven many times in the last couple of years that I can beat the best players in the world,” Djokovic said Monday in Beijing. “That’s what I’m proving this week as well.”
Djokovic, the reigning Olympic singles champion, added that he is “not concerned” about his game or mentality, saying his primary focus is getting to the bottom of the health problems that have made much of his 2026 season a struggle.
“Once that’s completely resolved, hopefully soon, then I don’t see any problem reaching Los Angeles,” he said.
His eye-catching Beijing run certainly supports his belief.
After defeating World No. 2 Alexander Zverev, Djokovic said the victory was further proof that he can still beat the world’s best when his body allows him to play his game. Hard to argue with him at this point.
After taking out Daniil Medvedev on Monday, Djokovic now rides a remarkable 33-match China Open winning streak into Tuesday’s final against Alex de Minaur, whom he leads 3-1 head-to-head.
The six-time Beijing champion is into his 146th ATP final, tying Ivan Lendl for third-most in the Open Era, and will bid for a seventh China Open crown — another milestone in a career that appears to be far from finished.
