The Denver Broncos lacked the second half magic that powered them to both of their wins this season in a 24-14 defeat to the San Francisco 49ers today. Despite that, they are favored on the road next week against an AFC West team that is in a dire season-ending situation if they drop to 0-5 next week. That should make the Los Angeles Chargers one of the more dangerous teams in the NFL … just in time for Denver to arrive in town.
According to FanDuel, the Broncos are 3.5-point road favorites over the winless Chargers in Week 5. The over/under stands at 42.5 for this matchup.

I think on any given week, I’d pick the Broncos to win this game. But the longer a talented team goes without a win the more dangerous it becomes. They seemed to wake up a bit in the second half against the Seattle Seahawks and came up just short of tying the game up late. The Broncos cannot come into this game and play as sloppily as they did again this week against the 49ers.

Few things are more frustrating than to come into a game that you felt wasn’t likely going to result in a win only to have the win well in hand and then fumble it away. They do that against a desperate team and it could go awry quickly. This a game Denver should win. I said this offseason that starting 4-2 in these first four games would be a best-case scenario. They can do just that by winning next week and then at home on a short week against those same Seahawks.
