By the Numbers: Saints vs. Raiders

Both the New Orleans Saints and Las Vegas Raiders are coming off road victories ahead of their week three matchup in the Big Easy. Las Vegas defeated the Los Angeles Chargers 26-14 for their second win in as many weeks, while New Orleans upset the Baltimore Ravens 24-17, picking up their first win and improving to 1-1. Let’s check out the breakdown of numbers for this week’s contest.

8: Las Vegas is tied for 1st in the NFL with eight sacks as a team through two games. The Raiders already have five players with at least one sack, so you never know who will wind up getting after the QB. This could be bad news for a Saints team with a struggling offensive line that has already given up eight sacks this year and will now be without starting LT Kelvin Banks Jr. for an extended period after landing on IR with a high ankle sprain.

35: Las Vegas’ fifth-round selection CB Hezekiah Masses, who rocks jersey number 35, has looked every bit the part of an NFL talent through the Raiders’ first two games. The rookie from California (Cal) is already making his mark in the defensive backfield with two interceptions (tied 1st in the league) and three passes defensed (tied 7th in the league).

55.6: Kirk Cousins has faced the New Orleans Saints nine times in his career and has a near even split of 5-4 in those games, or a .556 record. Most recently, Cousins swept the division series in 2025 against New Orleans as a member of the Atlanta Falcons, but the veteran QB will now return to the Superdome at the helm of Klint Kubiak’s offense with the Raiders.

60: New Orleans is celebrating its 60th season as an NFL franchise this year, and Sunday will mark the home opener inside the Caesars Superdome for the celebratory year.

136.5: After facing two of the top running backs in the NFL in Jahmyr Gibbs and Derrick Henry, the Saints have given up an average of 136.5 yards on the ground per game. Things will not get much easier for New Orleans as they will now hope to slow down agile RB Ashton Jeanty whose managed 210 all-purpose yards thus far.

662: The Saints have found themselves a QB of the future (and current) in Louisville product Tyler Shough. The second-year QB currently has a league-leading 662 passing yards and will now attempt to throw the first TD pass against the Raiders’ defense this season.

2021: The Raiders have not begun a season with a 3-0 record since 2021. Las Vegas, then led by QB Derek Carr, had two overtime victories in the first three weeks of the regular season. This is also the last time that the team made the postseason.

2023: Meanwhile, New Orleans has not gotten out of September with a winning record since 2023, when they beat the Tennessee Titans and Carolina Panthers to open the season. Sunday’s game will have a huge effect on the trajectory of the rest of both squads’ seasons.
