Jameis Winston, Giants reportedly agree to 2-year extension worth million

The New York Giants and veteran quarterback Jameis Winston have reportedly agreed to a two-year, $13 million extension, per NFL analyst Jordan Schultz.

Winston is with the Giants for the second season. Last year, he was called into action as Jaxson Dart dealt with injuries, but he figures to be the backup quarterback moving forward.

The 32-year-old Winston will now be with the franchise through the 2028 season, when he will be 35.

Dart is heading into his second season and is New York’s franchise quarterback for the foreseeable future. His dual-threat ability gives him a lot of upside, but his rookie season showed that he doesn’t mind taking contact when running in the open field, and it resulted in injuries.

This forced Winston to the field. He played in three games and finished the year with 567 yards, 2 passing touchdowns, and 2 interceptions. Winston had a 0-2 record in the two games that he started.

Winston has been in the league since 2015, when he was the first overall pick that year by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

He then had stints with the New Orleans Saints (2020-2023) and the Cleveland Browns (2024) before landing with New York last season.

Winston has played in 108 career games, but hasn’t been a consistent starter since 2019, his last season with Tampa Bay. That year was infamous for the QB, who finished the season with 33 touchdowns and 30 interceptions, becoming the only player in NFL history to record a 30/30 season.

The veteran QB has 24,792 yards, 156 touchdowns, and 113 interceptions in his career so far. While his starting days are behind him, Winston has always been known for his personality. New York views him as a mentor to Dart and a locker-room guy, and his impact has been enough to earn him a short extension.
