Actor Jesse Eisenberg shared details of his unexpected holiday trouble in Turks and Caicos, explaining how misplacing his passport transformed a difficult vacation into an ‘incredible experience.’
He discussed the ordeal during an appearance on Jimmy Fallon’s chat show, where a video clip showed the two conversing about how the trip became special after the passport was lost.
Fallon pointed out that Eisenberg got stuck on the island due to losing his passport and showed a photo of him by a pool, joking, ‘Looks like you’re having a blast.’
Eisenberg responded, ‘Well, they told me to smile and that’s how I smile. Yes. I’m not a beach person. I went down there kind of professionally with a wife’s colleague.’
He explained, ‘I don’t like when it’s hot or sandy or when people are overly happy. But on the second day, a miracle happened — I lost my passport. Then it was amazing because I had a task.’
‘I was on the phone with the embassy and airlines, walking around with security, visiting the police station in Turks and Caicos. It turned out to be this incredible experience,’ Eisenberg said.
He advised, ‘If you’re anything like me and go on vacation with family, at least misplace your passport for a day.’
With a disappointed tone, Eisenberg recalled, ‘I canceled it with the embassy. I spoke to someone in the Coast Guard, which was fascinating—why is she in the Coast Guard handling my passport? Not ideal.’
‘I reported my passport lost. Then at the airport, they said, “Right this way, we have your passport.” I was surprised and asked how they got it. They said someone brought it in.’
‘I had canceled the passport but didn’t check the airport because I was too distracted being happy about dealing with the embassy,’ he concluded.
