We all know all too well that where a player is ultimately drafted, or not, doesn’t always equate to success. We’ve seen former first-round picks turn out to be absolute busts and undrafted players become superstars with the Dallas Cowboys throughout the history of the organization.
We’ve also seen top drafted players who were considered busts arrive in Dallas and completely turn their careers around. The Cowboys are hoping Broderick Jones and Wanya Morris, both former Top 100 draft picks, fall into that category.
With concerns about the overall depth at the offensive tackle position, the Cowboys went out and acquired Broderick Jones via trade from the Pittsburgh Steelers. Jones was pick 15 in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft and has started a total of 38 games at both left and right tackle in his three seasons in Pittsburgh. While his career hasn’t panned out the way he had probably hoped so far, the change of scenery hopefully works in his favor much like it did his former Steelers teammate, George Pickens.

Jones’ arrival in Dallas puts a target on the back of Dallas’ current starting RT Terence Steele. Both players have been informed the starting RT job is up for grabs and to the victor go the spoils. With the 2026 NFL season opener against the division rival New York Giants quickly approaching, it seems highly unlikely Jones will overtake Steele for the starting job right away. But, considering No. 78’s struggles, it’s not completely out of the question either.
While expectations probably aren’t as high for the other OT Dallas signed the practice squad, Wanya Morris is an intriguing prospect as well. A former teammate of LT Tyler Guyton in 2022 at Oklahoma, Morris was overall pick 92 (third round) in the 2023 NFL Draft by the Kansas City Chiefs. He started a total of 15 games in his career with the Chiefs, winning a Super Bowl as a rookie, before being traded a few months ago to the Atlanta Falcons for a sixth-round pick in 2026.
Morris’ time on the practice squad is insurance for Dallas’ rookie OT Drew Shelton. Shelton needs more time to develop and doesn’t look pro-ready just yet. Morris acts as a stop-gap if injury and inconsistent play plague the tackle room.
The additions of both Broderick Jones and Wanya Morris show the Dallas Cowboys knew of the concerns at the OT position and went out and attempted to address the issue. They are betting they can tap into the talent that made both of these players Top 100 draft picks and reap the rewards. Under the tutelage of Kayton Adams, a highly regarded former OL coach, and Conor Riley, a highly regarded OL coach from the college ranks, big things could be on the horizon and for both of these tackle prospects.
