The Green Bay Packers have traded for former Los Angeles Rams tight end Mark Redman, according to NFL insider Jordan Schultz. Redman, who played at Washington, San Diego State and Louisville at the college level, was signed as an undrafted free agent in 2025.
So far, Redman hasn’t been active in an NFL regular-season game. This preseason, Redman caught six passes in three games for 63 yards, averaging 21 yards per reception. Last year, Redman was released by Los Angeles at the cutdown deadline and was re-signed by the Rams to their practice squad. He remained on Los Angeles’ practice squad through the team’s NFC Championship Game loss and was later signed on a reserve/futures contract.
I haven’t seen Redman’s film, but based on his 6’6″, 263-pound frame and 4.95-second 40-yard dash, along with his lack of production at the college level, I’d assume that he’s in the mold of a true Y, an in-line tight end. The players who would otherwise fill that role on the 2026 team are Tucker Kraft, who is expected to be on a pitch count for about a half-season after coming off his ACL tear, and Luke Musgrave, who will start the regular season on the PUP list after suffering a neck injury.

The team also signed Jonnu Smith, a hybrid off-ball tight end-fullback, earlier this week. It’s possible that Smith is now the Josh Whyle replacement — if not immediately, then when Musgrave returns — while Redman is the spot-saver for Musgrave’s role.

Update #2: The Packers have announced that the compensation for the Redman trade is a 2028 seventh-round pick. At the moment, Green Bay doesn’t own its own picks in the last two rounds of the 2028 draft, but they did pick up the Miami Dolphins’ 2028 sixth-round pick today.
