Tennessee Titans first-round pick Keldrick Faulk left practice last week with a shoulder injury. Robert Saleh said today that Faulk won’t practice this week, but that he is expected to be ready for the regular season opener against the New York Jets. Saleh didn’t give any specifics on the injury because he isn’t required to in the preseason.

The only good news here is that the Titans have more depth on the defensive line than anywhere else on the roster. Even if Faulk isn’t ready for the start of the season, they can get by with the other guys they have up front. That is certainly not the case in other places on the roster.

It probably feels pretty dumb to feel good about anything on the defense after the performance we have seen from them in the first two games, but I still think they are going to be good. There is plenty of talent on that side of the ball, and we know Saleh can coach a defense.

Am I crazy to still have optimism about the defense?
