Veteran free agent forward Jae Crowder will continue his career overseas, having signed with ASVEL Basket for the 2026/27 season, according to an announcement from the French team.
A longtime three-and-D wing, Crowder entered the NBA with the Mavericks after being selected 34th overall in the 2012 draft. He subsequently appeared in 812 regular season games over the next 13 seasons for nine total teams, last suiting up for the Kings in 2024/25. The 36-year-old wasn’t in the league last year, though he did spend some time with the Vaqueros de Bayamon in Puerto Rico.
Crowder’s playing time and production fell off in his later years, but in his prime, he was a reliable rotation player who showed up on a Defensive Player of the Year ballot with the Celtics in 2016 and received a Sixth Man of the Year vote with the Jazz in 2019. He holds career NBA averages of 9.3 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 1.6 assists in 24.8 minutes per game.
This will be the first time that Crowder has played in Europe.
While his new team, coached by Tony Parker, was said to be having financial issues earlier in the offseason, ASVEL has been able to make a handful of notable additions this offseason, signing former NBA guard Patty Mills and big man Joel Bolomboy, among others. The club is also said to be in advanced negotiations with former first-round pick TyTy Washington Jr.
ASVEL posted a 20-10 regular season record in LNB Élite competition last season but was eliminated in the first round of the domestic playoffs by Cholet Basket. ASVEL was far less competitive in the EuroLeague, finishing dead last with an 8-30 record.
