Ahead of Steelers’ training camp at a Tuesday morning press conference, wide receiver D.K. Metcalf said he’s noticed a change in third-year receiver Roman Wilson.

“Just his confidence,” Metcalf said of Wilson per Steelers Now’s Brendan Howe. “The way he attacks the field every day — he’s smiling, he’s bouncing around, he’s attacking every route. He’s not second-guessing himself. I think that’s one thing that he did do quite a bit last year, was second guess himself.”

After missing most of his rookie season in 2024 with injury, Wilson struggled to make an impact when healthy in 2025. He played just 253 offensive snaps on the season, losing playing time and active roster spots to new signings Adam Thielen and Marquez Valdes-Scantling late in the year.

A former third-round pick, Wilson has 166 career receiving yards with two touchdowns in his NFL career thus far.

After the Steelers traded for Michael Pittman Jr. and drafted Alabama star Germie Bernard in 2026, Wilson enters the upcoming season expected to be Pittsburgh’s WR4. And with quarterback Aaron Rodgers‘ return, Wilson has a chance to build some more chemistry with the veteran passer.

“We would always tell him, like, ‘Rome, you’re in the NFL,'” Metcalf said, per Howe. “‘You made it here for a reason, so just go out there and just continue to show why you should be here.'”
