49ers’ George Kittle recalls Kyle Shanahan challenging him to a fight
“After every year, we go down to Cabo to hang out,” Kittle shared. “One, because it’s such an easy flight, and two, they have great golf courses down there that I really, really enjoy. This was probably like four or five years ago—we’re golfing with Kyle at his golf course, and I think it’s just me and my wife, and then him and his wife and their kids.”

According to Kittle, the group was enjoying a round of golf and a few drinks when Shanahan unexpectedly challenged the All-Pro tight end to a fight—and Kittle had no intention of backing down.

“I think it’s like hole 15 or 16, he was like, ‘I think I could take you in a fight.’ And I was like, ‘Really? You think you could take me in a fight, Kyle?’ He’s like, ‘Yeah, I think I could.’ And I’m like, ‘All right. Bring it.’

“And he kind of like rushes me, and I pick him up, and I put him over my shoulder, and I walked him down—because it was a par 3 on the ocean—I walked him down to the beach, and I put him in the ocean.”

When Dre Greenlaw first walked back into the San Francisco 49ers‘ facility this offseason after a year away, everybody got a hug from the linebacker.

“It was just an unbelievable feeling, just missing the guys, missing the organization, missing just everybody,” said Greenlaw, who left to play for the Denver Broncos in 2025. “It was just a sense of feeling like home.”

“So I’m going with Jacob Cowing, a guy who adds a speed dimension that the 49ers did not have a season ago. Ricky Pearsall tested extraordinarily well, but, to the eye test, Cowing plays faster than Pearsall.

Cowing will be lined up in the slot and off the ball in advantageous matchups against a secondary that does not run well, at least compared to Cowing. Usage matters. Cowing will likely run deep crossing routes or routes with vertical stems. He may have a screen or two mixed in with an underneath route, but he’s a vertical threat.

That’ll lead to big plays, splash plays, and “oohs and ahhs” from the crowd.”
