The Kings have decided to waive DeMar DeRozan, reports ESPN’s Shams Charania (Twitter link). Assuming the veteran forward is officially cut in the coming hours, he’d be on track to reach unrestricted free agency on Wednesday.
This outcome had been expected for DeRozan, whose $25.74MM salary for the 2026/27 league year had only been partially guaranteed for $10MM. Assuming the Kings opt to use the stretch provision to spread that $10MM across the next three seasons, it will generate more than $22MM in cap savings for ’26/27, taking the team well out of apron territory and below the luxury tax line.
More to come…
