Brown is coming off his best season yet, averaging 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds and 5.1 assists in 71 games played to earn a spot on the All-NBA second team, the second selection of his career.
Brown won an NBA title with the Celtics in 2024 and was named Finals MVP.
Originally drafted third overall in 2016 by Boston, Brown has spent his entire 10-season NBA career with the Celtics.
The career year Brown enjoyed came with fellow All-NBA forward Jayson Tatum sidelined for most of the season while recovering from an Achilles tear. Tatum returned to the Celtics lineup near the end of the season and in time for the playoffs, but Boston ended up falling in the first round to the 76ers, who came back down 3-1 in the series.
Following Boston’s exit from the playoffs, there were indicators that Brown might be looking to leave Boston. He said while streaming on Twitch that this past season was his “favourite season.”
In the weeks that followed those initial comments, Brown tried to walk back the statement, but by then his name had been floating around in the rumour mill.
It was reported that the Celtics were engaged in talks to acquire Giannis Antetokounmpo from the Milwaukee Bucks for Brown, but the Greek superstar was instead traded to the Miami Heat.
Heading back to the Celtics is George, a nine-time all-star who, in Year 16, averaged 17.3 points, 5.3 rebounds and 3.6 assists in 37 games played.
He missed most of the season either sidelined due to injury or serving a suspension for violating the terms of the NBA/NBPA’s anti-drug problem.
