Local authorities in Davie, Florida initially said they closed their investigation into an incident at the home of New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith. They have since changed course.
The newly opened investigation involves an incident that took place at Smith’s home over the weekend, when a woman posted a social media video accusing Smith of assaulting her. A spokesperson from the Town of Davie Police Department initially told USA TODAY Sports via email on Monday, June 22, that police responded to the incident at Smith’s home but did not make any arrests.

“This investigation is closed,” the Davie Police spokesperson said in their email, sent at 4:56 p.m. ET.
Just over 90 minutes later, a different spokesperson reached out to USA TODAY Sports stating that the incident was now under investigation.
“We were informed earlier this evening, that during review, it was determined that this case is being further investigated by a detective,” a spokesperson for the Town of Davie Police Department said in a statement to USA TODAY Sports at 6:29 p.m. ET. “It is active and we cannot release any additional information at this time.”
