The Clippers have been floated as a potential landing spot for Celtics star Jaylen Brown in a multi-team trade construct that would send Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo to Boston and the No. 5 overall pick to Milwaukee as part of a package from Los Angeles, sources tell Grant Afseth of DallasHoopsJournal.com.
However, Afseth cautions that the framework his sources mentioned is one of “several” potential multi-team deals making the rounds around the NBA and isn’t close to being finalized.
The Clippers acquired the fifth pick from Indiana as part of the Ivica Zubac trade. It’s unclear what else they would send to the Bucks as part of the framework.
Afseth suggests the Celtics have been quietly gauging Brown’s trade market and have “picked up steam” as potential landing spot for Antetokounmpo. He also confirms the Hawks, Rockets and Trail Blazers have been mentioned as teams with interest in Brown, as previously reported by Marc Stein.
ESPN’s Brian Windhorst gave an update on Antetokounmpo trade talks this morning on Get Up, saying the two-time MVP is “focused” on landing with the Heat, but that Boston had recently expressed interest. He also said “third teams” and “fourth teams” were involved in those discussions.
“In recent days, we have seen that the Boston Celtics have shown some interest there,” Windhorst said. “But a Celtics’ offer has a stumbling block: Number one, you would be breaking up, potentially, Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. Number two, it would mean changing the entire structure of how the Celtics play basketball.”
