Jack Draper hopes Andy Murray will bring him much-needed success this summer.
Draper, the current UK No. 2, announced that the former World No. 1 and two-time Wimbledon champion will join his coaching team in time for this season’s grass court events.
According to the BBC, Draper, 24, who parted ways recently with former coach Jamie Delgado, will also continue working with the UK’s Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) for coaching support.
“I am very grateful for everything Jamie Delgado has done for me over these past six months. He is a world-class coach and a great man,” Draper said in a statement. “In the interim, I will continue to be supported by the excellent team at the LTA, with the addition of Andy Murray, who will be supporting me throughout the grass court season.”
Draper, who reached a career-high ranking of World No. 4 last year, has been beset by injuries since late summer that have forced him to miss many events. That includes a knee tendon injury that will prevent him from competing at Roland Garros in a few weeks.
Draper hired Delgado, who helped coach Murray to World No. 1 during his career, back in October. Yet they only worked together at four events this season due to Draper’s injuries.
Draper, who is set to fall out of the top 50 after Roland Garros, played in a Davis Cup tie versus Norway at the start of the year, then later competed in Dubai in February.
Since then, Draper has only played eight matches, his last one being a first round loss to Tomas Etcheverry in Barcelona where Draper was forced to retire in the third set.
Murray himself hasn’t coached anyone since ending a six-month stint with Novak Djokovic last year.
Draper has not yet finalized his schedule, but could potentially play Stuttgart, where he won his first career ATP title, as his first event back.
